Virginia Lt. Governor Candidate John Curran Plans to ‘Pull the Party Together’ Under MAGA Banner to ‘Create Real Solutions’
John Curran, who last year launched his candidacy for the Republican nomination to become Virginia’s next lieutenant general, said on Tuesday that he hopes to bring the commonwealth’s Republicans together, creating a unified front to leverage public opinion and force Democrats to accept conservative legislation.
Curran made the remarks on Tuesday to John Fredericks, who publishes The Virginia Star, during an appearance on “The John Fredericks Show,” after the host asked how the James City business consultant planned to use the role of lieutenant governor to advocate for policies that reflect President Donald Trump’s agenda.
“You have to go out and group with our delegates and our senators. You have to go with the caucus, the committees, and work on these bills, and present the bills through them. Rally up support,” said Curran.
He told Fredericks, “That’s one of the other problems I think Virginia has had, we have to really pull the party together here and get the support. As I’ve campaigned, I’ve met with a lot of the delegates and a lot of the senators through the state, they’re all in agreement.”
“The other part that the Lieutenant Governor does have is a voice, and a voice to challenge and push these things,” the candidate added.

Curran acknowledged the office he’s seeking traditionally does not hold much power, mostly being relegated to tie breaking votes on items other than the budget, but said he would leverage the office to raise public awareness and support for Republican legislation.
“It’s not a traditional [role], as you mentioned, that you can go in and actually have a vote on the floor unless it’s a tie,” said Curran. “But we do have the ability to work with the caucus, as well as the public, and push public demand.”
During a previous appearance, Curran called himself the candidate most aligned with Trump’s agenda, but former WRVA host John Reid, who interviewed the president multiple times on his Richmond-based radio program, has since entered the race. Curran nonetheless said he remains the most Trump-aligned candidate.
“I’m going with the Trump values, where Virginia’s going to come first now. We’re going to require accountability, we’re going to actually create real solutions using a business sense. I’m a businessman, not a politician,” he told Fredericks on Tuesday. “The Dems are pushing some of the most ridiculous bills through, they have multiple amendments they’re going to pass, one on abortion that just goes up and beyond anything I’ve ever seen. It’s time to respond to them, and respond to them in a smart way that actually challenges the Democrats.”
In addition to Curran and Reid, Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity is running for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, and last week was reported to lead the field in fundraising.
All three candidates are seeking the office being vacated by Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, who launched a gubernatorial campaign last year in hopes of succeeding Governor Glenn Youngkin, who cannot seek a second consecutive term.
