Trump Mocks ‘Broken Down Loser’ James Carville After Ex-Clinton Strategist Claims Democrats Likely to Win Virginia in 2025

President Donald Trump derided longtime Democratic political strategist James Carville after the former Clinton campaign strategist suggested Democrats should “play opossum” while the inevitable “collapse” of the Trump administration unfolds, fueled in part by a potential loss by Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, who is running to succeed Governor Glenn Youngkin this November.

“I’m telling the Democrats, just sit there, play possum. Let them go, let them go, let them go,” said Carville during a Thursday appearance on Fox News. Claiming without evidence that the administration’s poll numbers are declining, he advised Democrats, “Just let the ball come to you. We don’t need to be aggressive now.”

During the same appearance on “Hannity,” Carville predicted Earle-Sears would lose to former Representative Abigail Spanberger, who is likely to be the Democratic nominee for governor.

“The Democrats are almost certain to win the Virginia governor’s race – no, not almost – they are certain to win it,” he told host Sean Hannity.

Trump, in an apparent response to Carville’s remarks posted to Truth Social, pointed to the rightward shift in the country demonstrated during his election last November.

“I won the Presidential Election in a landslide,” wrote Trump, noting that he won seven swing states, the popular vote, “AND ALL FIFTY STATES SHIFTED REPUBLICAN, a record, and now I have the best polling numbers I’ve ever had.”

He accused the Democrats of being “run by broken down losers like James Carville,” who the president called “weak of mind and body,” before appearing to suggest the political strategist’s appearance on Hannity revealed Democrats “don’t know what to do.”

“They have lost their confidence and spirit – They have lost their minds,” wrote Trump.

Earle-Sears similarly responded in a post to the social media platform X and an appearance on Fox News.

She wrote in a post to X, “James Carville says I’m gonna lose. He might as well be the Jim Cramer of political predictions. Don’t worry, [Carville], we’ll save you a spot at the inauguration.”

Earle-Sears jeered Carville during her Fox News appearance, “James, my man, do you have some lottery numbers for me? Because you seem so certain. Except, you were certain before with Biden, and look where that got you.”

The lieutenant governor is currently the only Republican elected official in the race, though an effort to gather signatures for former Virginia Delegate Dave LaRock is reportedly underway.
