‘This Is Their Cause?’: GOP Senator Expresses Shock At ‘How Stupid’ Dems’ Choice To Defend Alleged MS-13 Gangster Is
Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri told “Faulkner Focus” guest host Jacqui Heinrich Democrats were “stupid” to make a MS-13 gangster deported to El Salvador a “cause.”
The Trump administration released a 13-page dossier detailing the evidence against Kilmar Abrego Garcia late Wednesday afternoon, the day Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland flew to El Salvador in an effort to secure Garcia’s release. Schmitt expressed incredulity that Democrats were opposing efforts to deport gang members after the 2024 election results.
“You put it in the backdrop, now of the Democrats coming off an election loss in November where illegal immigration was either the number one or two issue at any point in that campaign. They got their rear ends kicked in that election,” Schmitt said. “So, what do they do now? Now they are rallying all their energy and resources and political will is behind a guy who was deported, an illegal criminal alien, MS-13 gang member, who beats his wife.”

“This is their cause,” Schmitt continued. “So, I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom yet, Jacqui. This is insane to me. I can’t believe how stupid this is, but they’re doing it. So, let’s have this debate.”
Schmitt also pointed to Patty Morin’s appearance at Wednesday’s White House press briefing. Morion’s daughter, Rachel Morin, was murdered by an illegal immigrant in August 2023.
“Hearing from Patty Morin yesterday was important to reframe the issue. This is about human beings, young women, mothers raped, murdered by these illegal immigrants,” Schmitt said. “They need to go. The Democrat Party is really exposing themselves for who they really are now, which is they believe in open borders. They don’t believe in the sovereignty of our country. They think borders are arbitrary lines on maps.”
President Donald Trump issued several executive orders to address illegal immigration and border security, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) and MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations upon taking office on Jan. 20 and invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of gang members on March 15.
Schmitt also raised questions about United States District Judge Boasberg of the District of Columbia, an Obama appointee, who issued an injunction ordering the Trump administration to turn two planes carrying members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) to El Salvador around.
“I think there needs to be an investigation of Judge Boasberg got this case in the first place. He wasn’t the emergency assignment judge,” Schmitt said. “He took the case at 1:00 in the morning. He may or may not have been tipped off the case was being filed by an outside party. That needs to be looked at.”
