‘The View’ Co-Hosts Just Can’t Figure Out How Dems Should Respond To Trump’s Frenetic Administration

“The View” co-hosts debated how Democrats should respond to President Donald Trump’s hyperactive administration during a Tuesday segment.

In response to the mass protests against Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Democratic strategist James Carville advised his fellow Democrats to “play possum” by not interfering with Trump’s policies and instead prepare to be successful in future elections. Co-host Joy Behar argued that the party will “empower the enemy” by doing nothing, while fellow co-host Sara Haines said the party needs to unite on certain positions rather than attending protests that change nothing.

“I think the one thing Democrats should be doing is right now, the flooding the zone that Donald Trump is doing that we’ve talked about a lot of times, divides the people who are against him into a lot of little categories,” Haines said. “So, by ticking everyone off, now you’ve got individual groups fighting back … If the politicians could hunker down a little bit and decide what their messaging is, and what we’re gonna go forward with, I think that would be helpful because when people speak up, everyone’s reacting everything [Trump] throws out and nothing goes anywhere.”

“But I disagree with Carville, and I disagree with you,” Behar said. “Because I have lived long enough to see that people who do nothing empower the enemy. They do, I believe that. And I believe that Americans, first of all you can multitask, you can march and you can do whatever and let them do what they’re doing, you can do both. And the main thing you can do is call your Republican senators and congresspeople and tell them that you’re not happy with what’s going on. You did not vote for what they’re doing right now.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin said she agrees with Carville and is currently “resting” as Trump and his administration continue with their policy agendas.

“I kinda agree with James Carville because I’m part of the 92% of black women that voted to save the rest of the country, but the country wanted something else and the country’s getting something else. So I’m resting,” Hostin said.

Haines argued that Carville’s advice is “strategic” as it makes it more difficult for Trump to “flood the zone” and divide the Democratic Party. Behar warned that Democrats must currently act to save democracy which she said “is slipping away from us.”

Trump has signed 65 executive orders since taking office on Jan. 20, among them having declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” Canada and Mexico caved to taking more aggressive action on the border after the president imposed, and later postponed, 25% tariffs on both countries, and is currently in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about putting an end to their three-year long war.

Democratic congresspeople and liberal activists have taken to the streets over Elon Musk, the head of DOGE, trimming down the size of the federal government and eliminating the wasteful spending of taxpayers’ dollars. Musk’s new agency dismantled the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID) on Feb. 3, fired hundreds of probationary staff at the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and is preparing to investigate the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other agencies’ spending.

Democratic lawmakers uttered violent rhetoric during their protests against DOGE. Democratic New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver threatened her party is “at war” with Musk, while Democratic Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen said they must “take to the streets” to stop DOGE during a Feb. 4 protest.
