Short-Term Gas Prices No Longer Worth It to Voters

• As gas prices continue to soar, a plurality (48%) now say that President Trump’s comment (that short-term gas price increases are a small price to pay for peace) is NOT worth it to remove the Iranian nuclear threat.
  • Slightly less (44%) say it is worth it.
  • Republicans overwhelmingly side with removing the Iranian nuclear threat, while Democrats and Independents overwhelmingly say short-term gas prices are more important.
• It is worth noting, however, that 53% say it is more important to remove the Iranian nuclear threat than to keep gas prices low, while just 43% disagree.
  • The apparent contradiction may be an indication that voters are willing to put up with some price increase, but not at current levels.
• Meanwhile, the number of voters saying ending the war in Iran is more important than preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons is up 7 points to 47%.
  • Half (49%) disagree and say prevening Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is more important.
  • Again, there is a stark partisan divide.
• On both of these last questions, it is worth noting that just 37% of voters believe the current war in Iran is about nuclear proliferation.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, May 20-21, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
