Only 29% Feel Safer Compared to Last Year

  • Only 29% of voters say they feel safer than they did a year ago.
    • A third (34%) say they feel less safe.
    • Those numbers include 10% who feel Much Safer and 14% who feel Much Less Safe.
    • About another third (35%) feel their safety is about the same as a year ago.
  • Twenty-nine percent (29%) of registered voters say that crime has increased in their area in the last year.
    • Just 17% say that crime has decreased, and 40% say that crime hasn’t changed over the last year.
    • More voters who live in high-density areas (40%) say crime has increased.
  • Thirty-nine percent (39%) of registered voters say that violent crime or serious property crimes have occurred close to where they live in the last year.
    • Again, more voters who live in high-density areas (65%) say violent crime or serious property crimes have occurred close to where they live in the last year.
  • Still, 65% say they feel safe walking alone at night in their neighborhood, but 28% do not.
    • More men (76%) than women (54%) say the same
    • More Elite Adjacent voters (75%) than main street voters (60%) say they feel safe walking alone in their neighborhood at night.
  • In addition, the number of voters saying they are likely to be killed in a random mass shooting has dropped significantly.
    • Just 16% say it is likely that they or a close family member will be killed in a random mass shooting. This is down from 23% who said the same last September 2025 and 27% in December 2024.
    • Overall, 71% of voters say it is not likely.
    • Although only 5% of all voters say it’s Very Likely they or a close family member will be killed in a random mass shooting, 19% of politically engaged voters say it’s Very Likely, as do 25% of voters in densely populated areas.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, March 4-5, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
