May Party ID: Dem 47% Rep 43%, Dems in the Lead

  • In the full month of May, 47% considered themselves Democrats or leaned Democrat, while 43% of voters considered themselves Republican or leaned Republican.
    • The number for Democrats has been at least 45% since January, and the Republicans are down 1 point from February and March.
    • Since January, the Democrats have led by at least 1 point, and this month, they lead by 4.
    • When leaners are removed, the Democrats and Republicans are closer at 37% and 36%, respectively.
  • From November 2024 through December 2025, Republicans held a party edge every month, except in April 2025, when tariffs were announced.
