Mark Halperin Says Harris ‘Likely’ Won’t ‘Win Any’ Sun Belt Swing-States

Journalist Mark Halperin said Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris may not secure a single Sun Belt battleground state.

Former President Donald Trump led Harris across the Sun Belt swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina — according to the RealClearPolling averages. Halperin, on “2WAY Tonight,” noted that few Democrats are “expressing optimism about Georgia and North Carolina,” suggesting Harris may need to sweep Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to defeat Trump.

“I do not hear very many Democrats expressing optimism about Georgia and North Carolina today …  So we’ll see how they go. [Republican Georgia] Governor  [Brian] Kemp is expressing great confidence that his party will win Georgia,” Halperin said. “North Carolina, Republicans, remember the chairman of the RNC [Republican National Committee] is from North Carolina. I’m not telling you Kamala Harris will lose both states but I’m telling you that’s the assumption in the political world, and that has to do with not enough turnout in Atlanta.”

“We’re seeing everywhere the perception of both campaigns is very robust rural turnout for Donald Trump in all the states where there’s information so far. So I’m not assuming she’ll lose them both, but we’re likely in the world that many of us projected we would be, that she’s not gonna win any of the three big Sun Belt states, or maybe any of the four Sun Belt states,” he continued. “And so she’s got to hold all four of the Great Lake states.”

Halperin also said Monday that Democrats were “worried” about early voting.

“My sense of the early vote is it is not as disastrous as it was in the first three days to the Democrats, but it’s still really bad,” he said.

CNN’s Van Jones also expressed anxiety on Monday about Harris’ chances against Trump in Pennsylvania due to concerns relating to Philadelphia and Jewish voters.
