Majority Believe Government Worker Skills Translate To Private Sector

Treasury Secretary Scott Bassent’s recent comments about fired federal employees filling anticipated new factory jobs has many wondering if it is that simple.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of voters believe that government workers have skills that translate to working in the private sector. Seventeen percent (17%) disagree, while 29% are not sure.

Surprisingly, only 50% of current government workers believe they have the necessary skills to work in the private sector. Twenty-eight percent (28%) of them disagree.

The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen April 2-3, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
