Just 37% Say Iran War Is About Nuclear Proliferation

• Less than 4 in 10 voters believe the current war in Iran is actually about nuclear weapons.
  • When asked to respond in their own words, 37% cited concerns about nuclear proliferation.
  • Ultimately, this also may explain the rise in the number of voters who prioritize ending the war in Iran over preventing them from developing nuclear weapons.
• Unsurprisingly, this is almost identical with the 39% who favor the attacks in Iran.
  • That number has remained remarkably stable, though it has dipped lower on a few occasions as reports of bad news come in.
  • Six in 10 voters (57%) continue to oppose the war in Iran.
  • These numbers include 21% who Strongly Support the attacks, and 37% who Strongly Oppose them.
• The president’s overall handling of the situation in Iran also remains broadly unpopular: 40% approve while 58% disapprove.
  • This includes 21% who Strongly Approve and 45% who Strongly Disapprove.
• Trump-policy voters overwhelmingly approve of the attacks and the president’s handling of Iran in general, but a majority of traditional GOP voters disapprove.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, May 20-21, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
