Just 33% Say It’s Appropriate To Attack a Foreign Nation To Overthrow Their Government

• Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters oppose President Trump’s attack on Iran, while 40% favor it.
  • These numbers include 19% who Strongly Favor the attack, and 28% who Strongly Oppose it.
  • Unsurprisingly, two thirds of Republicans (66%) at least Somewhat Favor the attack, while 71% of Democrats oppose it.
• Even fewer (33%) say it is appropriate for the U.S. to attack a foreign nation with the goal of overthrowing the nation’s government.
  • Half of voters (50%) disagree, and 17% are not sure.
  • A narrow majority (52%) of Republicans say it is appropriate, though 24% disagree and another 24% are undecided.
  • Meanwhile, 73% of Democrats say it is not appropriate for the U.S. to attack with the goal of overthrowing a government.
• However, voters generally think it’s likely the operation will be a success and will overthrow the current regime.
  • Fifty-five percent (55%) think it is at least Somewhat Likely, while 30% find it unlikely.
  • These numbers include 23% who say it is Very Likely, while 9% say it is Not At All Likely.
  • Republicans say it is likely by a margin of 74% to 14%.
  • Democrats disagree, by a much smaller margin of 46% to 37%.
