Just 29% Say Congress Supports Nation’s Core Values

  • A majority (64%) of voters say that most Americans still support our nation’s core values of freedom, equality, and self-governance.
    • About 1 in 5 (22%) disagree and say most Americans do not support our nation’s core values.
    • More Republicans (71%) than Democrats (62%) or Independents (48%) say most Americans still support the nation’s values.
    • Almost three quarters (73%) of voters who talk politics every or nearly every day agree that most Americans still support the nation’s values.
  • Fewer voters (29%) of voters say that most members of Congress still support our nation’s core values of freedom, equality, and self-governance.
    • Consequently, 50% say most members of Congress do not support our nation’s core values.
    • One in 5 (22%) are not sure.
    • Among the political parties, a plurality (41%) of Republicans say members of Congress do not support the values, and majorities of Democrats (53%) and Independents (64%) say the same.
  • A majority (64%) also say that it is more important for elected politicians to represent their constituents than to pursue their party’s agenda.
    • Still, 28% say it’s more important for elected politicians to pursue their party’s agenda.
    • The parties largely agree that it’s more important for elected politicians to represent their constituents.
    • By a margin of 76% to 19%, voters over 65 also say it’s more important for elected politicians to represent their constituents.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, June 10-11, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
