Just 14% Agree With Current Law on Congressional Allocation, Want Illegal Immigrants Counted

• Just 14% of voters agree with the current law that includes illegal immigrants in the population count that determines the number of representatives a state gets in Congress.
  • An overwhelming 85% think that only U.S. citizens and legal residents should be counted.
  • That number is split between 35% who only want citizens counted and 50% who say legal residents should also be counted.
  • Nearly 6 in 10 Trump-policy voters (58%) say only citizens should be counted, while an almost identical number (57%) of Traditional Republican voters say to include legal residents.
  • A majority of Democrats (56%) want citizens and legal residents counted.
• Similar numbers are found when voters consider allocating federal funds based on population.
  • Just 15% of voters say illegal immigrants should be considered in this calculation.
  • More than 8 in 10 voters (84%) say only citizens and legal residents should be counted.
  • The party numbers are similar, although Trump-policy Republicans are split 50% to 45% on whether only citizens should be counted or whether to include legal residents in this case.
