‘How Could She Not Be Prepared?’: Geraldo Rivera Hammers Harris Over Response To Border Questions

Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera criticized Vice President Kamala Harris Wednesday night for not being ready to answer questions about illegal immigration during an interview with “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier.

Baier’s interview with Harris aired Wednesday evening, during which Harris struggled to answer questions about the border and declined to apologize to the families of Rachel Morin, Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray. Rivera, who worked at Fox News for over two decades, said Harris could have addressed the issue while claiming Trump had “exploited” the deaths.

“What she did very poorly, it seems to me, Abby, is how in the world, where everybody in this whole country knows that immigration is now the issue, it is the issue of the moment — maybe it won’t be three weeks from now, maybe it will be, but for right now, immigration is the issue,” Rivers told “CNN NewsNight host Abby Phillip. “How could she not be prepared for Bret Baier showing the photographs of the tragic victims of illegal immigrant criminals?”

“She should have an answer for that, an answer other than, ‘Oh, you know, it’s awful and…’ You know, it deserves some real substantive thought. For instance, here, let me just read you one quick sentence. This is from Jason Riley, the father of Laken Riley, one of the victims that was portrayed, and it’s about how the memory of their loved ones are being exploited,” Rivera said. “This is from Jason Riley, Laken’s father: ‘I think it’s being used politically to get those votes. It makes me angry. I feel like they’re using my daughter’s name, and she was much better than that, and she should be raised up for the person that she is. She was an angel.’ Why couldn’t Kamala Harris say something like that, that humanized her concern for the loss and then called out those who would exploit it?”

Harris ended the interview after 27 minutes, after testy exchanges with Baier over multiple issues, including President Joe Biden’s health, while also dodging a question on Iran.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, an immigrant from Venezuela who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, was arrested by University of Georgia police and charged with murdering Riley on Feb. 23. Authorities in Oklahoma arrested 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez in June for the August 2023 murder of Morin.

Authorities in Houston arrested two men June 20 and charged them with capital murder in the rape and murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray.

The Border Patrol encountered over 7 million illegal immigrants since the start of fiscal year 2021, according to figures released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
