‘He’s Not A Popular President’: Charlamagne Torpedoes Harris For Not Highlighting ‘Differences’ With Biden

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God criticized Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday for failing to distinguish herself from President Joe Biden on the campaign trail.

Harris asserted during a Tuesday interview on “The View” that she could not think of anything she would do differently when co-host Sunny Hostin asked her if she had diverged from Biden at some point “during the past four years.” Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” argued Harris’ answer was politically unwise due to Biden’s unpopularity.

“She definitely needs to highlight differences, especially being that President Biden is not a popular president to the American people. President Biden has some good things that he’s done while he’s been in the White House the past almost four years, but he’s not a popular president,” Charlamagne said. “So, just from a campaign strategy, you should say, ‘Oh, we definitely have a lot of differences,’ and just maybe leave it at that and say, ‘Hey, I’ll explain later, but yes, there’s a lot of things that I would definitely do different, but I am proud of the good things that we have done.’ Leave it at that, right? But don’t say you don’t think of nothing you would change.”

“I guess she didn’t want to ish on him, you know what I mean? But I’m with you, a lot of people are not happy with Biden, so the fact that you’re saying that ‘I wouldn’t change anything’ and the fact that people are not necessarily happy about that, makes it sound a little crazy to me,” co-host DJ Envy responded.

Biden’s current approval rating is 40.9%, while his disapproval rating is 13 points higher, according to the FiveThirtyEight polling average. Harris’ approval rating has surged to 45.4% since launching her presidential bid on July 21 after Biden dropped out and endorsed her, according to the FiveThirtyEight polling average.

“It’s nothing wrong with her distancing herself … It’s like she’s afraid to,” co-host Loren LoRosa said. “At first, people were saying that it was going to be a bad look if she did because it was going to look like she wasn’t loyal to the party, but now it’s like, we’re all here telling the truth.”

“When you got an approval rating as low as Joe Biden, there’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘Yeah, I got some differences with this guy,’” Charlamagne added.

During her appearance on “The View,” Harris also said she participated in “most of the decisions” Biden made “that have had impact,” naming the administration’s policy to cap insulin costs at $35 for senior citizens. The vice president began plotting to distinguish herself from the president’s economic policies and inflation in an effort to redefine herself, anonymous advisers told Axios in August.
