CNN Panel Suggests Harris Didn’t Get ‘Anything Out Of’ Fox News Interview
Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky and former Trump campaign strategic communications director Marc Lotter agreed Thursday that Vice President Kamala Harris likely saw little to no benefit from her Wednesday Fox News interview.
Harris appeared on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” for her first formal interview with the network, where host Bret Baier pushed her on the border crisis and her agenda to guide the nation “forward” as president. Both Roginsky and Lotter contended Harris probably failed to win over any voters during the interview.

“I’m not so sure that she got anything out of it. I understand the purpose, which was to show that she can go into the lion’s den and talk to people who may be curious but not obviously hearing information from Fox that she wants them to hear,” Roginsky said. “If you’re watching Fox at this point, I don’t know that you’re curious about anything other than you want to go out and get out and vote for Donald Trump.”
“That wasn’t helpful to her, I don’t think. She obviously showed that she could go toe-to-toe with him. He was obviously a Trump surrogate, and she understood that she was debating him in place of Donald Trump,” she added. “But I don’t know if there’s one undecided voter there who looked at that and said, ‘You know what, I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris now.’”
Harris is currently narrowly behind in six of the seven battleground states, while she only holds a small lead in Wisconsin, according to RealClearPolling averages.
“I will agree with Julie,” Lotter said. “I don’t think she got much out of it because if you were that undecided voter, when Bret asked about the economy or immigration, the answer wasn’t, ‘Here’s what we could have done better, what we would’ve done wrong.’ It was, ‘It’s all Trump’s fault,’ and when she was asked, ‘Well, what would you do differently?’ ‘Well, it’s Trump‘s fault and I’m not Biden.’”
The interview received mixed reviews, with CNN’s Van Jones asserting Thursday that Harris “did a magnificent job,” but that the event was “an inkblot test.”
Newsmax political analyst Mark Halperin asserted on Thursday that he has seen sparse coverage of the interview in swing states, suggesting it will likely have no effect on the election.
“I looked at a lot of news in the battleground states today, and it’s barely mentioned. So what I really think is it’s probably a nonevent. You know, we can all analyze it. You can listen to people say it was a triumph,” Halperin said. “You can listen to people say it was a car crash. I think in the end it’s a nonevent because what matters is an impact on the voters and what they hear about it. And I don’t see much again in the seven states that matter.”
