Charlamagne Dumps Cold Water On Former Biden-Harris Staffer’s Claim That US Not ‘Ready’ For ‘Female President’

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Wednesday rejected former Biden-Harris 2020 campaign staffer Ashley Allison’s claim that Americans are not “ready” to elect a woman as president, citing past election results as evidence to the contrary.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 and former Vice President Kamala Harris received over 75 million votes in the November election. When Allison, on “The Breakfast Club,” asserted America would “already have a female president” if the country was “ready” for it, Charlamagne pointed to Clinton and Harris’ performances as proof that gender is not an insurmountable barrier to the presidency.

“I think they are [ready]. And the reason I would say that is because we do have to factor things like the Electoral College in 2016. If there’s no Electoral College, Hillary Clinton is the president of the United States of America. And we also have to factor in Vice President Kamala Harris did get the second-most votes of any Democratic nominee ever — 72 million votes,” Charlamagne said. “That’s a big deal. And going up against a superstar like Donald Trump, that’s a big deal. I think that America’s more than ready. I really do.”

“I mean, I said what I said. If they was ready, we would have maybe even had a Republican female president. We just haven’t,” Allison responded. “I think that there are still so many biases, conscious and unconscious biases that we don’t even know exist in this country. And until we have some real tough conversations, I think we’re going to be stuck.”

Shortly after the 2024 election, Charlamagne argued it was unfair to attribute Trump’s victory over Harris to bigotry, asserting that other factors were more decisive in his win.

“I don’t think it’s fair to just chalk up Trump winning to racism, sexism, homophobia or antisemitism. Yes, he tapped into all of the worst things America has ever had to offer, and there are a lot of people who agree with his rhetoric and voted for him because of those reasons,” he said. “But I truly believe most people voted for him because they want more money in their pocket and they want to feel safe.”

Trump’s victory over Harris was fueled partly by increased support from Hispanics and black men.
