Baseless Claims Without Proof: Rep. Debbie Dingell Says Trump Will Put People in Internment Camps If Elected

DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) appeared on CNN and claimed former President Donald Trump will put people in internment camps if elected.

Her comments on CNN even surprised left-leaning host Jake Tapper.

“The Arab American community needs to be reminded and cannot forget,” Rep. Dingell told Tapper. “He wants to ban Muslims. He wants to deport Muslims, and he wants to start internment camps. And that‘s what we are busy talking to every voter. He‘s telling you what he‘s going to do. Believe him,” Dingell said.

“Internment camps?” Tapper asked.

“Yes. He has talked internment camps,” Dingell argued. “You know what, Jake, you may have to visit me in one.”

Tapper then told Dingell he’s heard Trump talk about deporting illegal immigrants but had not heard an internment camp comment. Rep. Dingell responded to her claims without backing it up.

“He has spoken about that in different audiences,” Rep. Dingell responded. “I don’t have the exact citation right here, but I’ll find it for you. And he‘s been very clear,” Dingell said.

Michigan News Source reached out to Rep. Dingell’s office to gain a copy of the citation and to ask if she stands by her comments. They did not respond by press time.

Michigan is a major battleground stated and both presidential camps are making numerous campaign stops in the final days before the Nov. 5 election. Many speculate that Michigan and its 15 electoral votes could swing the election. With Trump’s endorsement from multiple Muslim leaders in the Detroit area over the weekend, Michigan’s Democratic southeast voting block has the potential to swing red.
