A New High Says Deportations Have Gone Too Far

  • Forty-eight percent (48%) of voters now say the number of deportations has Gone Too Far, while 46% disagree.
    • Those who disagree say that the number of deportations has Not Gone Far Enough (23%) or it has been About Right (22%).
  • This is the first time since Trump took office that more voters have said the number of deportations has Gone Too Far than who have disagreed.
    • A plurality (40%) of Republicans claim deportations have Not Gone Far Enough, while slightly less (35%) say they have been About Right and about 1 in 5 (18%) say they have Gone Too Far.
    • Three quarters (74%) of Democrats say the deportations have Gone Too Far, while 9% say Not Far Enough and 11% say About Right.
  • Similarly, 51% now have a favorable perception of the Trump Administration’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants. This is a new low.
    • Meanwhile 46% oppose the efforts. These numbers include 29% who Strongly Favor the efforts and 28% who Strongly Oppose them.
    • Eighty-six percent (86%) of Republicans favor the efforts, while 3 quarters of Democrats (75%) oppose them.
  • Efforts by the Trump Administration to deport illegal immigrants in general have consistently been viewed more positively than President Trump’s handling of the issue, currently sitting at 44%.
    • As with many things in the Trump Administration, this may be a case of voters liking the sentiment of the policy more than the methods used to achieve it.
