85% in Washington Say Housing Affordability Is a Serious Problem

• In Washington, the overwhelming majority (85%) say that housing affordability is a serious problem in their communities, including 80% of Republicans and 90% of Democrats.
  • However, there is less agreement about how to fix that problem.
• Overall, Washingtonians say that reducing regulations on building of apartments and single family homes is a better approach than increasing rent controls by a 43% to 28% margin.
• There is agreement, however, that it is important to provide treatment for addiction and mental health alongside housing.
  • Ninety-two percent (92%) of voters believe this is important.
• Eighty-three percent (83%) say local governments should add treatment to their programs, making them compliant with a recent executive order, and thereby keep their federal funding, with no difference between Republicans and Democrats.
