77% Favor a Ban on Social Media Use by Children

• 77% of registered voters favor a proposal to ban the use of social media by children.
  • Only 16% oppose.
• Three quarters (75%) think that parents should decide when their children are old enough to use social media.
  • Only 17% think the federal, state, or local government should decide. Even fewer (3%) think that social media companies should decide.
• An overwhelming 89% of voters favor requiring tech companies to give parents control of what social media applications their children can access.
• When asked what age children should be allowed to access social media, a majority of voters (62%) think that by the time children are 16 or 17 years old, they should be able to decide.
  • More Democrats (40%) than Republicans (29%) believe that 16-17 is the right age.
