71% Agree on SCOTUS Ruling on Tariffs

• Seven of 10 voters (71%) agree with the Supreme Court ruling that the president cannot impose wide-ranging tariffs on his own and instead requires Congressional approval.
  • Just 21% disagree and believe the president should be able to impose tariffs on his own.
  • This number includes 43% who Strongly Agree and 28% who Somewhat Agree.
  • An overwhelming majority of Democrats (90%) agree with the ruling.
  • A smaller majority of Republicans (54%) agree with the ruling, but 36% disagree and say the president can impose those tariffs without Congressional approval.
• Half of voters (50%) say Congress should allow the tariffs to be reversed.
  • One third (35%) say Congress should act to maintain President Trump’s tariffs.
  • As expected, the parties disagree: 62% of Republicans say Congress should act to maintain the tariffs, and 79% of Democrats say Congress should allow the reversal.
  • Men are evenly split with 44% saying Congress should act to maintain the tariffs and 44% saying they should allow them to be reversed.
  • On the other hand, by a 55% to 26% margin, women say Congress should allow the tariff reversal.
  • By a 60% to 40% margin, voters who talk politics every or nearly every day say Congress should act to maintain the tariffs.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, February 23-24, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
